Tuesday's Ten Quotes To Touch Your Soul- 8/6/24
This week, our "Tuesday's Ten Quotes to Touch Your Soul" will be from Mr. Randy Pausch. For those of you who aren't familiar with Randy, he was a professor at Carnegie Mellon and a Disney Imagineer among many other achievements. In September of 2006, Randy Pausch was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and in August 2007 he was given a terminal diagnosis stating he only had 3-6 months left of good health. On September 18, 2007 at Carnegie Mellon, Randy gave a very inspirational lecture entitled "The Last Lecture: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams." Randy also co-authored a book of the same name, The Last Lecture, which became a New York Times best seller. On July 25 of 2008, at the age of 47, pancreatic cancer ultimately took Randy's life.
If you've never read the book The Last Lecture or seen Randy's famous "Last Lecture" on YouTube, I highly recommend you take the time to do so. Below are ten quotes from Randy that have helped guide members of our team, and we hope they will do the same for you.
1) “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” ―
2) “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.”
―
3) “Proper apologies have three parts:
- What I did was wrong.
-I feel badly that I hurt you.
-How do I make this better?”
―
4) “The key question to keep asking is, Are you spending your time on the right things? Because time is all you have. ” ―
5) “Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted. And experience is often the most valuable thing you have to offer.”
―
6) “If I only had three words of advice, they would be, Tell the Truth. If got three more words, I'd add, all the time.” ―
7) “When you’re screwing up and nobody says anything to you anymore that means they’ve given up on you…you may not want to hear it but your critics are often the ones telling you they still love you and care about you and want to make you better.” ―
Although Randy left this world way too soon, leaving behind his wife and kids, he certainly left his mark on an innumerable amount of people during his short time here. Although Randy has passed on from this world, his words are still a guiding light to so many, and he will continue to live on through all of us that have taken the time to read or listen to his insights.
We hope these ten quotes helped fill your soul with inspiration and peace today. Do you have a quote that has resonated deeply with you- something that has gotten you through the hardest of times?
